This was the view from the parking garage as I left work recently. I snapped a picture as fast as I could, knowing it was likely to change at any moment.
Ominous, isn’t it?
What do you see when you look at this? What emotion does it evoke? Fear? Beauty? Awe? Or maybe all of the above.
As children, my sister and I would take turns sitting on our father’s lap on the front porch during bad storms. More often than not, it was she who was on his lap, while I looked out from my perceived safety of the living room window. I went through alternating phases of being in awe and being afraid. Ha! Not very far off from my adult self. I am both mesmerized and terrified of bad storms.
On this day, though, I decided to head home immediately rather than waiting in the safety of the garage until the worst had passed. I made a conscious effort to enjoy the craziness of the weather as I headed home. Instead of fearing a tree falling on me, I said a brief prayer for safety and proceeded.
And guess what? I actually enjoyed the ride. It was kind of fun. The winds whipped, the trees bent, things were flying, and I observed all of it with a peace about me.
Sometimes, it’s all about the decision. The decision to trust God in the moment, and enjoy the scenery despite what’s going on around you.
This was the view twenty-four hours later. What a difference a day can make! But I think that’s a subject for another post…
Make it a good day, no matter what circumstances you find yourself in.
