Are You There, God?

fog2Recently my husband and I decided to take a day trip down to Maryland. There was a thick fog in the morning when we left. As we crossed the Ben Franklin Bridge, all we could see were the supports of the bridge and a few cars in front of us.

I turned to the right to look out the window at the view. Nothing. There was nothing except a thick grey curtain. I knew everything was there, I just couldn’t see it. The river, the city, the factories, the hotels and boats. All there, but they couldn’t be distinguished through the veil.

And so it is with God. He is there with us all along, even if we can’t see Him. Like the fog, His love envelopes us. When we can only see a few steps ahead, that’s all we need to know in the moment. We have to trust that the plan is there. The next steps are ready for us, but only as we take the first few can we then see what’s ahead.

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9 (NIV)

Sometimes you can’t see what’s coming. That’s ok. God’s got it. Your job is to trust Him. Just take the next step.

  1. I always say write your plans in pencil, Gods got the eraser!…
He knows better then we do what it is we need, it’s not always what we wanted! Trust is the answer yes!
    Thanks Carolyn:)

  2. Good one. I do not doubt the integrity or strength of a bridge to keep me from peril, why shoul I doubt God’s. Silly me.

  3. It isn’t just God that is there: the Evil One lurks around also. Lately when I have had a “bad” thought enter my mind, I immediately replace it with “Jesus” and it works! So thankful we have an amazing God who loves us SO much!

Thank YOU, Carolyn, for your great insights.
