Gender reveal parties are all the rage these days. Expectant parents look forward to having an ultrasound, and are anxious and excited to find out the sex of their baby. The wait from a positive pregnancy test to determining the gender can seem so long. However, it wasn’t all that long ago that you had to wait until delivery.
But consider this gender reveal: “The angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus’.” Luke 1:30 (NIV)
This gender reveal happened before she was even pregnant. Imagine that, an angel telling you the sex of your baby. No waiting there! No plus sign on a stick, no amniocentesis, no ultrasound, no blood tests, etc. An angelic prophesy.
When Mary questioned how this could be, the angel’s response ended with, “For nothing is impossible with God”.
It’s all such a mystery. And isn’t that the beauty and wonder of it all?
An angel also spoke to Joseph. “She will give birth to a son and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 (NIV)
The best gender reveal ever! A son. Given for us.
What a reason to celebrate on this Christmas day.

A beautiful and different way to look at the begining of the Christmas story. It reminded me of one of my favorite Christmas songs, “Mary, Did You Know?” If you haven’t heard it look it up. It will touch you!
